Thieves swipe development sign

Daily News-Sun -- A semi-trailer sign advertising a new housing community just outside the Surprise city limits was stolen last week. But plans for a sneak preview and grand opening have not been derailed.

Ripson Homes, based in Scottsdale, had just completed its outdoor billboard program for its new housing development, Sonoran Acres, off of Northwest Grand Avenue and West Patton Road, when the felony was committed at the corner of 163rd Avenue and Asante Boulevard near Surprise.

A billboard sign, valued at $2,800, was stolen from the side of a semi-trailer between March 25 and 27.

The 53-foot sign compared and contrasted the lot sizes of its 1-acre, semi-custom homesites of Sonoran Acres with neighboring development, Asante by Lennar homes, which has more traditional-sized lots.

The sign had been placed on a parcel of land across the street from the new Lennar Homes subdivision, and was installed on March 20. A sneak preview of Sonoran Acres for the community is planned for this weekend, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

One model is open, and the builder is offering a $14,000 perimeter fence, an incentive for first-time home buyers. A formal grand opening is planned, with family-oriented events, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 11 and 12.

Anyone with information on the theft should call Surprise police at 623-222-4000.For information, visit the Sonoran Acres website.
